The Avett Brothers

Oh my, I didn't notice I have their album for months now.
Lesson Learned: First impression is a big NO.+/-

The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers is a folk-rock band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. The band is made up of two brothers, Seth Avett and Scott Avett who play the guitar and banjo, respectively, and Bob Crawford, who plays the stand-up bass. Their songs are honest: just chords with real voices singing real melodies. But, the heart and the energy with, which they sung, is really why people are talking, and why so many sing along to their tunes. They are a reality in a world of entertainment built with smoke and mirrors, and when they play, the common man can break the mirrors and blow the smoke away, so that all that's left behind is the unwavering beauty of the songs. That's the commotion, that's the celebration, and wherever The Avett Brothers are, that's what you'll find.
I don’t want to live, but I sure don’t want to die.
I’m stuttering again and tellin' her goodbye.
Oh m-m-my, Goodb-b-bye.
Will You Return?

Reason to Love Meiko

I couldn't remember how I found her when my friends haven't even heard her music. And the last time I checked, I cant find a decent site with her name. That kinda sucks.+/-

Meiko is an indie-pop artist who recently released an album under the Myspace Records label earlier this August. Meiko is not new to the music scene- Meiko's last album was the #1 folk album on iTunes and got more than 200,000 downloads. Her sound consists of plucky guitars & lyrics alongside her pop beats, and coupled with her lovely youthful voice, it makes for quite an enjoyable experience.

The news is she'll be releasing her album on Sept. 9. It features two songs "Said And Done" and "Under My Bed", one song remixed, "Walk By", and a brand-new song called "Boys With Girlfriends".

Metro Station

Hmmm, I dont know why this band reminds me of Jonas Brothers. No, erase that! Go forth and listen to their music.+/-

Metro Station

If one was to make a musical time capsule of 2007 – a collection of sounds and lyrics reflecting the energy of our moment – it might be a good idea to drop in a copy of Metro Station’s eponymous debut record. Sure, the band is young (ok, still in fake ID territory), but Metro Station’s brazenly catchy dance hooks and yearning lyrics perfectly capture what it feels like to be a teenager in today’s culture.

This is a band that was weaned on and made by the Internet, whose dedicated legion of online fans made them MySpace stars in a matter of weeks. This is a band that caught the early attention of Alternative Press (earning a spot as one of the magazine’s “22 Best Underground Bands”), along with URB and Teen Vogue magazines, months before they signed to a label. Metro Station is a band that, despite their youth, have made their way from greasy mall jobs to recording with Motion City Soundtrack in the same year. They are truly a product of their times and their generation, and they are ready to take advantage of it.

The Jakes

I cant believe Im really making an effort in writing on this blog. I'm pretty lazy and most of the time I dont make a point. Ha! Thats nuff of me.
I stumbled recently on a superb site which features fresh new artists. One can listen songs there and even download with the artist' permission. This is where I discovered 'The Jakes'. Their song, Cough Syrup hooked me up instantly on the first listen. That's how good this band is. The Daily Chorus even described the band's album not mass-produced and crafted carefully which other so-called popular hype indie bands claim. For me, the mixture of drums and other instruments killed me.+/-

The Jakes

The Jakes is an avant-garde indie rock band from Orange County that finds comfort in traditionalism through Whiskey Blues, Sinatra, and eclectic chant. The Jakes EP Shake My Hand, is fueled with the acumen and panache of the collegiate coast, and has conjured a persona of the experimental collective spirit. Nonetheless, Shake My Hand, has equipped artillery to youth, and with this new-fangled weaponry, The Jakes introduce themselves to the music world with fireworks.

Rarity: Rod Thomas

There are times when I want to shoot my head whenever I hear a song (believe me i do this always and i don't know why). Now its either I cant contain myself on how beautiful the song is or my brain couldn't possibly contemplate why the song was made in the first place. Rod Thomas certainly is in the first category. With a name slightly familiar with a mainstream artist, one might just skim his name. He, definitely deserves some fuss with his fresh, upbeat and utterly almost-perfect sound. Don't take my word for it, you go listen for your self.+/-

Rod Thomas

Rod Thomas is a singer/songwriter who grew up between two villages in the South Wales valleys with not much else to do but learn how to play a number of instruments and start to write his own songs. Often described as “acoustic disco”, Rod’s music is made using a loop pedal, handclaps, acoustic guitars and percussion to orchestrate tales of life, love, and dancing at discos.
or we'll go down to the city and dance like there's nobody watching, if there is then we don't care

LSS: You Don't Know Me by Ben Folds feat. Regina Spektor

I just cant get over with this song. Ben Folds really step up on his game with this one. Also, cheers for Regina Spektor for completing the formula! They should come up with a video soon. Soon!

Meanwhile, watch this fan-made video of the song.+/-

You Don't Know Me
by Ben Folds feat. Regina Spektor

I wanna ask you -
Do you ever sit and wonder,
It's so strange
That we could be together for
So long, and never know, never care
What goes on in the other one's head?

Things I've felt but I've never said
You said things that I never said
So I'll say something that I should have said long ago:

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

You could have just propped me up on the table like a mannequin
Or a cardboard stand-up and paint me (paint me)
Any face that you wanted me
To be seen.
Damned by the existential moment where
We saw the couple in the coma and
It was we were the cliche,
But we carried on anyway.

So, sure, I could just close my eyes.
Yeah, sure, trace and memorize,
But can you go back once you know

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me

If I'm the person that you think I am (Ah ah ahh)
Clueless chump you seem to think I am (Ah ah ahhh)
So easily led astray,
An errant dog who occasionally escapes and needs a shorter leash, then
Why the fuck would you want me back?!

Maybe it's because

(You don't know me at all)

Ahhh ah
Ahhh ah

(You don't know me,
you don't know me.)

Ahhh ah
Ahhh ah

So, what I'm trying to say is
What (What?)
I'm trying to tell you
It's not gonna come out like I wanna say it cause I know you'll only change it.
(Say it.)

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

(Mmmm, ohh oh
Ah ah ah ah ah
Aha ah ah ah
Aha ah
Ah ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh oh ohh)

To those who've been on space for the past months, here is the second volume of some amazing artists who have been creating buzz lately. I may be a bit late but please do support them and their albums.

Little Boots

Little Boots is the solo project of Victoria Hesketh, formely lead singer/ synth player in Dead Disco. The track ‘Stuck on Repeat’ was produced by Joe Goddard from Hot Chip and will be released on limited 12” white-label vinyl in March 2008. The track has received a lot of attention from many popular music blogs. Little Boots will release her first single-proper on the 18th August 2008 on the 50 Bones label. The track; ‘Meddle’ will be available as a limited-edition 7”. The track was produced by both Joe Goddard and Greg Kurstin.

I remeber all the things she did before.
I remeber all the times she cried.
I remeber all the things you promised her,
and no one heard.

Ready for the floor (Hot Chip Cover)

Of Montreal

Of Montreal (formed in 1997) are an indie pop band from Athens, Georgia, United States, fronted by Kevin Barnes.
They were among the second wave of groups to emerge from The Elephant 6 Recording Company and the group has a style that is typical of many Elephant 6 bands due to their interest in combining musical experimentation with the basic tenets of pop i.e. catchy melodies and sing-along choruses. The band’s style has been influenced by conventional indie pop, psychedelic music, vaudeville and music hall on their earlier releases and by afrobeat, funk, krautrock and reggae on their recent releases.

Ra Ra Riot

Formed at Syracuse University in January 2006, Ra Ra Riot is an amorphous blob (read as: band) that consists of seven highly dedicated individuals, each bringing her/his own experiences as both people and musicians to the metaphorical table. They are dedicated to moving people physically and mentally as a means of affecting positive micro/macro cosmic change. Ra Ra Riot spends its time shaking the hands of foreign dignitaries, practicing, playing shows, eating pizza, writing strange band bios that sound like college application essays and going about the business of everyday life.

Okkervil River

Okkervil River began as a mutual project of Will Sheff (vocals, guitar), and Seth Warren (guitar). They met and collaborated together when both were still in high school in Meriden, NH. After relocating to Austin, TX in the late 90’s, the duo decided to re-assemble the band with the addition of Zachary Thomas (vocals, bass), Jonathan Meiburg (vocals, banjo), and drummer Mark Pedini. In 1998, the group self-released their first disc, the “Bedroom” (EP), followed a year later with their debut album “Stars too Small to Use”. During the succeeding years, the band regularly played live on numerous occasions, including an appearance at the South by Southwest festival in 2000. The group’s second album, Don’t Fall in Love With Everyone You See, showed up in 2002, re-affirming the band’s cult following all over the Texas music scene. Since that time, Okkervil River has released a few more full-length albums and several EPs. On April 17, 2006, Okkervil River signed with Virgin/EMI in Europe. On August 7, 2007, the band released their fifth full-length, entitled “The Stage Names,” released, again, on Jagjaguwar. Pitchfork identified the album as “Okkervil River’s most emotionally devastating record yet, and without doubt one of the year’s best.”
Sit down, sit down on the proud wave bye, there might not be another star, farther on the line. Look out, look out at each town that glides by, and there's another crowd, to drown in crying eyes. And see how that light you love now just won`t shine, there might just be another star, that`s high and far in some other sky.

The Deer Tracks

The Deer Tracks is David Lehnberg & Elin Lindfors, both children of Gävle, Sweden. Despite their earlier success with respective projects (Leiah, Ariel Kill Him & Twiggy Frostbite), all roads led them into this electromagnetic mist of melodies. And so, around the shift of 06/07, they met to shape electro landscapes just as sparkling as the rime that sheeted the long and hard winter nights. Now streaming from this coalition is the tender sadness of the north, coated in its northern lights. Electrifying vibrations meets a gentle forest, where tracks of magic leaves shaped patterns. The castaway’s last hope, a message in a bottle drifting against the stream.
A young boy's journey from his house to the outer edges of civilization. Star filled skies, forests of birch trees with rich colorful palettes that fill the screen.
